Norris Road Bridge, Gallatin County, Montana

Norris Road Bridge Summary

A man and his friend were incorrectly cited for criminal trespass while waterfowl hunting along the Gallatin River in 2021. This area has enjoyed unlimited access for 40+ years. A new landowner purchased about 75 acres on both sides of the road and erected fences and signs limiting access, in some places legally. Investigation showed some surveyor stakes below the high water mark and signage within the public right of way.

In April 2022, the trespassing case was thrown out, but at great expense to the cited individual. The property has more recently been sold. Some of the signage has been taken down, but the fencing remains. Read more about the incident and ongoing issues here.
